Reset Options for Videos in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows

Once you explore video editing options such as recoloring, corrections, preset video styles, video borders, video effects, resizing/flipping, etc. in PowerPoint 2010, your original video clip may appear to be entirely different from what you started with. The fact that you can make your videos look so different in PowerPoint 2010 with customizations galore can sometimes prove be a disadvantage, especially if you want to get rid of all customizations and get back to the original state of your video clip.

Fortunately, the Reset Design option is just what you need at this point of time! In this tutorial, you will learn how you can restore a video clip to its default appearance, and get rid of any customizations you may have made.

Follow these steps to learn more about reset options for videos in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows:

1. Open your presentation, and navigate to the required slide where you have already inserted a video clip. If your video clip is not already customized, go ahead and apply some customization. The video clip that you see within Figure 1, below has been recolored, has a video style applied, and has also been flipped.

2. Also, do notice that our video clip has a Poster Frame applied indicated in the Player Control bar, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 1, above. If your video clip doesn't have a Poster Frame added, go ahead and add one now. However, this step is entirely optional.
3. With your video clip selected, you will see the two contextual Video Tools tabs in the Ribbon. These two tabs are Format and Playback. Click the Format tab to activate it, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 2, below.

Contextual Tab

The Video Tools Format tab is a Contextual tab. Contextual tabs are special tabs in the Ribbon that are not visible all the time. They only make an appearance when you are working with a particular slide object which can be edited using special options.
4. Within the Video Tools Format tab, locate the Adjust group and click the downward arrow on the bottom of the Reset Design button to access the Reset Design drop-down gallery, as shown in Figure 3, below.

6. Both options within the Reset Design drop-down gallery are explained below:

7. Select this option to undo all edits such as corrections, recoloring, etc. This will not reset the video if it is resized, rotated, or flipped.

8. Choosing this option will reset the video clip completely, even all the resized, rotated, or flipped changes.

Reset and the Poster Frame

When any of the Reset Design options are used, the inserted video is reset to exactly the state it was when inserted for the first time. The only exception though is that any Poster Frame you added will not be removed.
