Insert Flash Movies using the Insert Tab in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows

In a previous tutorial, we showed you how to insert a Flash movie (an SWF file) into your PowerPoint slide. Here are links to tutorials on PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2010 that explain the use of the Shockwave Flash control in inserting a Flash movie within PowerPoint. In addition, PowerPoint 2010 provides another way to insert Flash movies. This is much more intuitive and simpler, but the resulting Flash movies will play only within PowerPoint 2010. Older versions including PowerPoint 2007 will not support playback of movies inserted using this process.

Follow these steps to insert a Flash movie into PowerPoint 2010 for Windows:

1. Open the PowerPoint presentation and select the slide where you want to insert the Flash movie.
2. Access the Insert tab of the Ribbon and click the bottom part of the Video button, as shown in Figure 1, below.

3. A drop-down menu appears with three different options to insert. Here, select the Video from File option, as shown in Figure 1, above.
4. Doing so brings up the Insert Video dialog box, as shown in Figure 2, below. Navigate to the Flash movie you want to insert, select it and click on the Insert button.

5. Now you can see that the selected Flash movie has been inserted, as shown in Figure 3, below. You can resize this Flash movie as required, by dragging the handles.
