Mike Power owns and runs Neuxpower, the company behind the popular compression software NXPowerLite, WeCompress, and now Slidewise, a PowerPoint fonts and media add-in. Although he generally has a company to run, he loves nothing more than getting stuck into designing software. He’s particularly fussy (some might say meticulous) about ensuring that Neuxpower retains a focus on simple, unfussy software that just gets the job done. In this conversation, Mike talks about the tenth release of NXPowerLite, their file compression program.

I recently met a young businesswoman who confided in me that she has a perpetual problem with nerves. She said that whenever she has to face an audience, she goes to the front of the room clutching a stack of note cards and shuts her eyes before speaking. When she speaks, she looks only at her cards. When I asked if that reduces her anxiety, all she would say was, “It gets me through.”

Adding equations in your PowerPoint slide is a powerful way to present and communicate mathematical, scientific, and technical information to your audiences. Most people don’t add equations because it may appear like a complicated process or even unnecessary. However, putting in the effort to add an equation can make a big difference. And although some users may find this process cumbersome, it’s quite easy once you do so a few times.

As soon as I heard my new navigation system announce the routing for my trip, I recognized the male voice. It was the same man who greets me whenever I call United Airlines: warm, friendly, conversational and, most of all assured—unlike the characterless robotic voices that I (and you, too) must endure in so many other automated voice systems. As a result, I listened to his guidance instructions with extra attention.

Typing a space seems simple enough – just press the spacebar on your keyboard. However, what many people don't realize is that this action only adds a regular breaking space. Occasionally, you may require a specific type of spacing within a sentence. This could be to prevent words from being split across two separate lines. In such cases, it's important to use appropriate spacing techniques that ensure the text stays legible and easy to understand. One effective way of achieving this is by using a nonbreaking space.
