Sometimes when you insert a video clip on your slide within PowerPoint 2013, it may appear too dark or light -- similar to what you might have seen on your television, especially a new television where you have to make a few adjustments to get the picture just right. These adjustments can be made to any of the video clips you insert within your PowerPoint slides. These kind of adjustments may be not only necessary for the appearance of the video clips on your computer, but also for how they show when projected onto a screen or even on a connected TV.

PowerPoint's animation options allow users to create a plethora of movement effects, all the way from the amazing to the dizzying. However, most of these animation effects have events associated with them -- the three main events are On Click, With Previous, and After Previous. Whichever event you use, PowerPoint offers an extra animation option called Triggers. This causes your animated objects to swing into movement when you click an entirely different object on your slide.

After inserting a video within your presentation, you may see a blank / black rectangle on the slide as placed video clip. The appearance of the blank / black rectangle is caused by the file format of the video clip inserted on the slide -- not all the formats show these blank / black rectangles. In fact, you may also see the first frame of the video clip in some cases. With PowerPoint 2013's Poster Frame option, you can easily overcome this limitation, and change the black rectangle to a picture of your choice by selecting a frame from the video itself, or even a picture from a different source.

Place a stencil, and paint over a surface – and you have instant lettering! Stencils take us to the days when large format printing was not commonplace. You placed a stencil, and painted over it to leave an impression on a surface. Stencil designs, including everyday alphabets had "bridges" between areas that were cut – these bridges gave stenciling the unique look that we still associate with this art form. Fast forward to today, and though we no longer require stenciled alphabets, they look different. This "difference" has sparked the renewed interest in stenciled typefaces – we explore a few more of them on this page.

Adding an animation to any slide object imparts movement of some sort to that object, and draws the attention of the audience to that object. In this tutorial, we'll explore how you can add sound to an animation -- the combination of movement and sound makes it compelling for your audience to focus on the object that is being animated -- but again, this sort of pizzazz only works if you use it sparingly to highlight the most important part of your presentation.

While there's always going to be some people who can end up with wonderful charting results without any planning, it does not work that way for everyone. To understand this better, let's explore an analogy. Have you seen those folks, who have the gift of the ladle? They need no clues about what they are cooking, yet they just seem to know what to do next. And they end up creating a culinary masterpiece. But most others cannot do so, and may end up with a culinary disaster without planning. It works the same way with charts - the more you plan, the better your charts will look, and be more capable of explaining your numerical message to the audience.
Planning your chart before you begin is a great way to create better charts.

Let's imagine you got your animation just right -- you tweaked the speed, set the animation event, etc. Now, you need to apply the same animation to 50 other slide objects within the presentation! Typically, you may have to spend an enormous amount of time for such a repetitive task, manually applying the animations so many times! Fortunately, the Animation Painter feature can help.

A decade ago, everyone wanted to insert SWFs into their PowerPoint slides. There were dozens of free and paid PowerPoint add-ins that did this task for you, and if you were patient enough, then you could also do this manually. But now new versions of PowerPoint allow you to add SWFs as a video clip -- and also the need to insert SWFs has reduced. Adobe Presenter also enables you to insert a SWF file within your presentation slide -- the inserted SWF plays in PowerPoint too if you have the Flash ActiveX Control installed.

Once you add animation to any slide object, you can set its animation speed and choose an animation event. Other than speed and event, you can also alter the delay caused before the animation actually starts. So why would you add a delay? There are several reasons and primarily a delay can be beneficial if you want to maintain a time limit between two animations -- as in having the second animation occur 10 seconds after the first one has started/concluded. Of course, that was just a simple example and animation delay can be helpful in many other scenarios.
Learn about Animation Delay, an option that lets you delay any animation for a given amount of time.

For PowerPoint users, Prezi is not so easy to understand. That's not because Prezi is a difficult tool to use -- rather that's because we all have been so used to doing tasks in a certain way and expect the same workflows in Prezi, and that does not always happen! The one task that had me stumped initially was trying to change the font within one of the text placeholders.
