Symbols for PowerPoint are ready to use clip-art style icons that you can use within your presentation slides. Although the icons you download from this page are yellow and grey in color, they can be recolored using PowerPoint's native options for fills, lines, and effects. These symbols are contained within a sample presentation you can download. Just copy the icon you like and paste into another PowerPoint slide, or even a Word document or Excel worksheet. In this series of tutorials about formatting shape outlines in PowerPoint 2010, you have already seen how to apply weight, dash styles, arrowheads, and also gradients to the shape outlines. Now let us learn how to remove any outline from the shape so that your shape has only fill without any outline. Whenever you insert a new shape into a PowerPoint slide, you can see that it is filled with a solid color and has an outline by default (this may differ depending on the Theme applied to your presentation). But if you want you can remove the fill of the shape as well as the outline.

After learning how to format shape outlines in PowerPoint 2007, apply weight and dash styles, arrowheads add gradients to outlines, you are now ready to learn how you can remove the shape outline altogether. Whenever you insert a new shape into a PowerPoint slide, you can see that it is filled with a solid color and has an outline by default (this may differ depending on the Theme applied to your presentation). Most of the time, you may leave that unaltered, but if you want, you can remove the fill of the shape or the outline, which is what you will learn on this page.

You have already learned about the different options for Formatting Shape Outlines in PowerPoint 2010. In addition, you have explored how you can change the weight, dash styles and arrowheads for these shape outlines. In this tutorial, you will learn about an attribute that's rarely associated with shape outlines but can provide a surprisingly different look, especially when applied to lines that are thicker in weight. This attribute Gradient, is not accessible from the Shape Outline gallery in the Ribbon but directly from the Format Shape dialog box that we will explore later in this page.
