PowerPoint allows you to save your slides to many graphic file formats, which can later be used in other applications as required. This series of tutorials shows you how to create a new secure PDF with slides exported from PowerPoint. Of course, you can create your PDFs straight from PowerPoint but that process allows you to copy text and graphics individually from within the PDF. Compared to that process, this tutorial uses flattened slides that don't have any selectable or editable text.

This page comprises the first part of the PowerPoint to Secure PDF series.

Follow these steps to export PNGs from within PowerPoint 2007 for Windows:

  1. Open any presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. With the presentation open, choose the Office button | Save As, as shown in Figure 1, below.
  3. Save As

  4. This action summons the Save As window, as shown in Figure 2, below. From the Save as type drop-down list, choose PNG, or you can choose any other graphic file format. Then, click the Save button, as shown in Figure 2.
  5. Save as PNG

  6. Doing so brings up a message window asking if you want to export every slide in the presentation, or just the current slide. Choose the Every Slide option, as shown in Figure 3, below.
  7. Every slide

  8. Once the slides are saved, PowerPoint prompts with a message, as shown in Figure 4, below, displaying the path where the PNGs were exported. Click the OK button to dismiss this message box.
  9. PNGs saved

  10. Now, you can shut your presentation. Optionally, save the presentation if prompted. All graphic files will be available to you in the path specified, as shown in Figure 4, above.

In the next part of this tutorial series, we'll explore how we can get these PNGs within a new PDF.
