Open and Close Tabs of Backstage View in PowerPoint 2016 for Mac

When you click the File menu and access Backstage view in PowerPoint, several options appear. On this page, we explore the Open option (highlighted in blue within Figure 1):

Follow these steps to open an existing file on your computer in PowerPoint 2016 for Mac:

1. Access the File menu, and click the Open option. This brings up various Places from where you can open a PowerPoint file, as shown in Figure 2. You will also find the Recent Folders list, that contains previously accessed folders, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 2. If any of these Places contain the presentations that you want to open, click to access the presentation, as shown highlighted in blue within Figure 2.

2. To open a presentation that is not within any of the listed Places, click the On my Mac button, as shown highlighted in green within Figure 2, above.
3. This brings up the conventional Open dialog box, as shown in Figure 3. Navigate to wherever your presentation files are saved, and you can open any of them. You'll find that PowerPoint can open files of various formats (types).

3. Select the presentation or PowerPoint file you want to open, and then click the Open button.
4. Additionally, you can open files from other Places, as visible in Figure 2. If you sign into Microsoft Office using your Microsoft Account, then a Place for your OneDrive account will already be added to the Open tab of Backstage view.
5. You can also add more Places, including other OneDrive accounts and Office 365 SharePoint locations by clicking the Add a Place option, highlighted in orange within Figure 2, shown earlier on this page.
