Apply Bevel Effects to Shapes in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows

You have already learned about some of the Shape Effects available in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows as part of this tutorial series. Now, you will learn how to add a Bevel effect to selected shape in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows.

Follow these steps to apply a Bevel effect to a shape:

1. Select the shape you want to apply the bevel effect to (if there's no shape on your slide, learn to insert a new shape). Double-click the selected shape to activate the Drawing Tools Format tab in the Ribbon (see Figure 1). Within this tab locate the Shape Styles group and click the Shape Effects button that you can see in Figure 1 (highlighted in red).

2. This brings up the Shape Effects drop-down gallery, as you can see in Figure 2. From the Shape Effects drop-down gallery, choose the Bevel option.

3. This opens the Bevel sub-gallery (refer to Figure 2) that provides the following options:

A. No Bevel

4. Use this option to remove any bevel effect from a selected shape. You can use this option only if the shape has a Bevel Effect applied.

B. Bevel

5. PowerPoint provides twelve default bevel styles to choose from. You can preview these styles in the online presentation at the bottom of this page.

C. 3-D Options

6. This option brings up a separate Format Shape dialog box. 3-D Format Options within the dialog box are covered in our 3-D Format Options in PowerPoint 2010 tutorial.
4. Move the cursor over any of the effects within the Bevel gallery to see a Live Preview of the effect. Click on the bevel effect of your choice to apply it to the selected shape. In Figure 3 below you can see a bevel effect applied to the previously selected shape.

Tip: Place your shape in the area that is not covered by the Shape Styles drop-down gallery as shown in Figure 3, so that you can see the Live Preview.
5. Remember to save your presentation often.
